about
The guitar for this song was written during the winter of Andrew Englund's 2nd tour to Afghanistan. There was no running water or electricity at the squad size patrol base where he was stationed and the pervasive cold hardened his finger joints to the point where it was nearly impossible to play the guitar his father had managed to send him. One day after coming off post, the broken generator was brought to life for a few hours before returning to its natural inoperative state. This was enough time to thaw his fingers in front of a barely working space heater and pluck out the guitar portion of this piece in its entirety from start to finish in a single session. The remainder of the song was carefully composed years later with the aim of capturing the mindset that had produced the original melody.
